Read moreUnderstand the two budgets that do most of the work in your plan - what Core Supports covers, what Capacity Building funds, and how to use both well.

Most participants have two budgets doing the heavy lifting: Core Supports, which keeps daily life running, and Capacity Building, which is meant to change what you can do next year. They behave very differently, and confusing them is the most common reason funding goes unspent.
Core is your day-to-day budget and it is largely flexible between its categories. We deliver:
Capacity Building is not flexible in the same way: each category is locked to its purpose. It funds the supports that build skill and independence.
The practical difference. Core keeps this week working. Capacity Building is what makes next year need less support. Plans that only spend Core tend to look identical at every reassessment.
Get personal care, household and transport stable. Nothing else works until daily life is steady.
Capacity Building works best aimed at something specific — catching a train alone, cooking three meals, holding a casual job.
Document what changed. It is what justifies your funding at reassessment.
You can generally move funding between categories within Core Supports. You cannot move funding from Capacity Building into Core, and Capacity Building categories are fixed to their stated purpose.
Unspent funding does not roll over — it is lost at the end of the plan period, and a large underspend can result in reduced funding at your next plan.
The NDIA, against the criteria in the NDIS Act. The support must relate to your disability, represent value for money and help you pursue your goals.
Yes — that is exactly what support coordination is for, if it is funded in your plan.
Most people we work with combine two or three of these. Mix and match whatever fits your plan.
