Advocacy & Practical Support

Therapy does not happen in a vacuum. A family dealing with unstable housing, a school that has stopped returning calls, an income crisis and a child who will not go to bed does not need a session about feelings first — it needs the week to hold together.
Child and family wellbeing support is the practical, non-clinical arm of our work with families. It runs alongside counselling and play interventions, or entirely on its own.
Families who are managing, but only just. Parents who have been told to “get support” without being told where. Kinship and foster carers who took on a child at short notice. Families new to Australia trying to work out how schools, services and systems here operate. And families where a child is already in therapy and the household around them needs shoring up.
You do not need a diagnosis, a plan or a crisis. This support is deliberately available to families who fall between the eligibility criteria of everything else — not unwell enough, not high-risk enough, not funded, but genuinely struggling.
We deal with the thing keeping you awake first. Long-term goals can wait until the immediate pressure eases.
We do things alongside you so that next time you can do them without us. Building capability is the point.
We work with families from African, CALD, refugee and migrant backgrounds, and we take seriously that services here can be genuinely bewildering from the outside.
We plan our exit from the beginning. The goal is a family that no longer needs us.
Families using this service often also use advocacy and practical support, and where therapeutic work is needed, our counselling and therapeutic services sit directly alongside it.
If you or a child is in immediate danger, call 000. For 24/7 support contact Lifeline on 13 11 14, Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800, 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732, or Safe Steps on 1800 015 188. Our counselling service is not a crisis or after-hours service.
No. This is practical support. It can run alongside counselling, and often does, but the two are separate services with different purposes.
No. Families can contact us directly. We also accept referrals from schools, health services, community organisations and family services.
Mostly where the family is — at home, at school, at appointments, and in community settings across our service areas.
Some families pay privately, and some elements may be fundable through an NDIS plan where they relate to a participant’s disability. We will explain the options honestly before anything starts.
Most people we work with combine two or three of these. Mix and match whatever fits your plan.
